Marvel has been on a roll lately with Avengers Endgame became the second highest grossing film of all time and, Marvel released a brand new trailer for the newest Spider-Man outing featuring Tom Holland. The trailer actually started with a spoiler warning as Tom Holland warned the viewer that if you haven’t seen Endgame then just don’t watch the trailer, it just makes me laugh because of the way that you can’t watch a movie to see a trailer now. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is so big that you have to watch the films before you watch the trailers, it’s just astonishing how you need to be up to date to see the trailers. Anyway, enough about the significance of the MCU lets talk about the trailer and Spider-Man having his latest adventure far from home (see what I did there).

With Spider-Man back from the dead and the universe back in full swing the world is once again safe and sound. However, with May Parker in the film and seeming to be in a sort of relationship with Happy Hogan her arc for this movie is clear and set for when the movie finally roles into the cinema, which is my main problem with the trailers and the movie. How on Earth is Aunt May allowing her only family to go off into the sun set on a holiday that just so happens to be a superhero that protects the streets of New York as the “Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man”. Yes OK, you can’t be selfish because New York needs their superhero to protect them from armed robbers and wing suited menaces that sell alien technology on the black market, but you can’t just ship that nephew off to Europe that is about 9 hours away.

The other problem I have with this trailer isn’t really a problem I have with the trailer but a problem I have with the fans. How are they so gullible? Everyone is getting excited because Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio opened up the possibility of the Multiverse in the MCU by explaining that he isn’t from Earth-199999 like the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. This leads me to think that there is an option that he could be similar to the character of Hunter Zoloman (played by Teddy Sears in The Flash). However, there is a possibility that Mysterio could be blatantly be lying towards the fact that the multiverse exists because of the fact that Mysterio’s main power is lying and casting illusions. Marvel fans have pretty much took it upon themselves to confirm the existence of the Multiverse but, I’d just take everything that Quentin Beck says with a pinch of salt.

Tom Holland reminds me why I call him my favourite actor because of the emotional weight that is carried all throughout the trailer, his red tired seems seem agonising to watch as he mourns the loss of Tony Stark. We’ve seen an upset Spider-Man before but the utter depression that Holland presents even though he isn’t shedding a tear is phenomenal. I do want a scene with Peter, Morgan Stark or Harley Keener as they are the kids that Stark held close, we’ve seen how the loss of Stark has affected the adults of the MCU but, for someone so young we haven’t seen the mood shift there is compared to Homecoming’s jolly tone.

Can we just appreciate Zendaya in the role of MJ for a few minutes. Her dry, witty sense of humour is a break from the over the top comedy that everyone seems to be going for in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her character almost knows how ridiculous all this madness is and just accepts it. From the trailer there is something done that goes against the original films, the one pet peeve I had with the original Raimi trilogy (which is forever being praised) is that Mary Jane was even more fascinated with Peter the moment that he told her he was Spider-Man, she was totally oblivious in the first film about who Spider-Man was even though there was always trouble and Peter would disappear. Now in this new incarnation the new MJ has a shred of common sense putting two and two together, because her class mate literally went missing on the way back from a bus ride as an alien spaceship flew into Earth’s orbit. Personally I like the little comradeship against these two actors because it’s not an idealised relationship like Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone whilst not being like a relationship that was written by a five year old like Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

If Mysterio is telling the truth about the Multiverse then that means that the MCU can link into the Spider-Verse films meaning that Sony and Marvel are able to partner up more. Widening up the Multiverse can introduce characters like the X-Men and Fantastic 4 so that MCU can go on until the end of time (that’s the way it’s heading anyway).

This is the first trailer post Endgame so they need to cover a lot of things in this movie. I probably missed somethings out but, alll will be revealed July 1st 2019. As always, if you like what you’ve just read there are loads of blog posts below to do with comics and pop culture. I’ve been Troy Harrison reminding you to always ‘stay fresh’.
